Why does PTA have fundraisers?
Need more pencils, time for new books...that means it's time for PTA school
fundraisers!
"The PE coach needs more jump ropes and balls..." "The music teacher wants more
American Folk music...." "The library needs new books...." (various statements, not actual needs at Shady
Brook) Who do you think the schools depend on each and every year when they need extra funds raised?!?
Why,
the Parent Teacher Association (a/k/a PTA) of course!
Every year, as government school funding is cut, the fundraising
needs of the schools go up. The PTA is basically in charge of raising money to finance PTA programs, projects, extra
classroom materials and much more. We run a tight ship! But there is a reason behind what is typically portrayed
on television sitcoms as the PTA tirade.....crazed mothers with too much time on their hands!
How many times is my child going to be sent home with fundraisers?
Just one time! We are having a joint Cookie Dough Fundraiser with the school this year. No other
forms or catalogs will come home this year asking you to buy or sell something else for PTA.
What does the PTA use the money for anyway?
The funds
raised are used to help support educational efforts and "extras" for the children, like extra classroom materials
and supplies, assemblies, school programs, family dinners, teacher wish lists and much much more.
Besides selling items, what other kinds of fundraising does the PTA do?
General Mills Foods "Box Tops for Education"
Last year Shady Brook earned $1,000.00 because you clipped Box Tops for Education and sent them to school
with your child. Since 2002, Shady Brook has earned $5,596.00! This money supports many activities the PTA sponsors
and is used for purchasing much needed supplies and equipment for the school. The list of eligible products is always
growing, click on the Box Tops picture to go to their website and check out the list. You can also earn Box Tops by
shopping on-line in their many participating retailers. There is a complete listing in the "Marketplace" section
of their website. Let's see if we can earn $1,000.00 for Shady Brook this year!
Skate Town Nights
Periodically throughout the school year, we will have a Skate Town Night. Every person, not just
the children, that skates will earn money for the school. So, come on out and skate with us. You may bring your
own skates or rent some. They have the "old-fashioned" kind as well as in-line skates. There will
be door prizes!

Every month there will be a dedicated CiCi's
Pizza Night. Come have dinner and earn money for the school. Cici's Pizza will give a portion of the Shady
Brook receipts back to the school.
Chick-fil-A Nights
