WHAT IS A VOLUNTEER? "A
volunteer is a person who can see what others cannot see; who can feel what most do not feel. Often, such gifted persons do
not think of themselves as volunteers, but as citizens - citizens in the fullest sense: partners in civilization." George Herbert Walker Bush
WHY VOLUNTEER???
What better way can you think of to stay connected with you child and their
school? Volunteers in the HEBISD make a difference daily. Each day, volunteers share their talents in many ways,
from tutoring one child to assisting teachers and staff. We are a vital part to the success of the Shady Brook PTA.
One of the finest ways to get acquainted with the staff and teachers is to become a volunteer. There are
so many ways in which your talents might be used to benefit the children of Shady Brook. We can be positive role
models and an important influence in our children's education. Our purpose is to provide support within the school
so that the individual needs of the students are better met.
Please remember to log your volunteer hours.
The district keeps track of volunteer hours submitted by each school. Any amount of time that you spend at the school,
assisting a teacher from home or working on a project for PTA counts as volunteer hours.

"Volunteer
of the Month"
New this year, "Volunteer of the Month"!
Each month, we will be recognizing a special Volunteer Hero! The Volunteer (non-PTA Board Members) with the most
logged hours will be named and will receive a "Happy" from the PTA. The Volunteer of the Month's name
will appear on the school's Marquee and in the Super Shetland Express! Without all of your dedicated volunteer
time, Shady Brook and the PTA would not be able to provide all of the special extras for the students and teachers.
It would be great to have a different Volunteer of the Month each month! So, don't forget to LOG THOSE HOURS!!!!
Oh, and each $5.00 that you spend (sending dishes for Teacher Appreciation, donations for Class Parties, additional school
supplies for classrooms...) counts as 1 hour of volunteer time. Financial "hours" can be logged
in the same manner as time.
